Empathy 5.3 – Oniris, or the awakening of the lucid body
A work by Bioscénica, for FACTT 2021 *
Just as the practice of lucid dreaming (awakening within the dream) is an ancient exercise in the search for altered states of consciousness, Empathy 5.3 – Oniris or the awakening of the lucid body, explores the intentional experience of the awakening of the bodies within the dream, to live an increased state of consciousness. We take advantage of and work in the laboratory with the potential to create new realities (enactive code), combining the materialities of cinematographic language, live performing, poetry, voice and sound design.

Empathy 5.3 Oniris, or the awakening of the lucid body Alejandro Ortiz González In the beginning, all was calm, vapor of life and thin layers of growing foliage. Nothing escaped the caresses of Oniris, the deity of the flowers that are born inside the dream. Thus were born two bodies, which are one, two faces in formation for the embrace of the fronds. The music and the waves arrived long before the words that name them, they were not necessary but they were present to give an additional shine to the desire. Behind the eclipse the light was also born, bringing with it the shadows and the mist. They arrived together, in a dance without beginning or end. With them also came the movement. The body of the dream runs and dissipates, embraces the torrents, filters, thins itself down, takes flight like a feast of spores. From the same body two splendid birds are born, threads of light in the aerial ocean flap their wings slowly, aware of themselves. The bird is a dolphin, it is not a spot. Vein growth is a matter of days in the garden of blood. We are one body that is two or thousands, that are light and shadow at the same time. How many bodies can fit in the word body? How many words are necessary to reach the escaping air in one stroke? Logic is the weapon of reason and its executioner. How many times can we wake up inside the dream? I am that flash that is born in the forest, I am that ghost, the trace of smoke that returns from death. The dream is a garden that springs up in the imagination, an inexhaustible spring of joy, a cocoon for life to grow without worries, a flutter, the power of water and fire vibrating in a tiny cell. The body of the dream flies and condenses, it widens like a river that is born from the breeze, like ink and its creatures. I am that river that dances among the leaves and flowers, I am that mystery that lives behind the silence, the forest breathing. To die in that light to be born in all lights, to vibrate in that flower, to be born in each drop of dew, to grow as life does, covering everything in its path, prisoner of the vigour without adjectives. We can discern the gods dancing between the folds of the dream, their dance is an omen that reads the present in the eyes of the leaves. Beneath the dream, we look at the eclipse as one looks through a microscope at two cells in a loving encounter, fused in the embrace of desire. The ring of fire that melts everything in its progress, the celestial body that escapes its limits. Everything begins and ends in the eyes of Oniris that are one, the body that awakens in the depth of sleep.

FACTT 20/21 – Improbable Times presents a series of excepcional artworks jointly curated by Cultivamos Cultura and our partners. The challenge of a translation from the physical space that artworks occupy typically, into an exhibition that lives as a hybrid experience, involves rethinking the materiality of the work itself. It also questions whether we can live and interact with each other remotely and in person producing creative effective collaborative outcomes to immerse ourselves in. Improbable Times brings together a collection of works that reflect the times we live in, the constraints we are faced with, the drive to rethink what tomorrow may bring us, navigate it and build a better future, beyond borders.
A project spearheaded and promoted by the Arte Institute we are in or production and conception partners with Cultivamos Cultura and Ectopia (Portugal), InArts Lab@Ionian University (Greece), ArtSci Salon@The Fields Institute and Sensorium@York University (Canada), School of Visual Arts (USA), UNAM, Arte+Ciência and Bioscénica (Mexico), and Central Academy of Fine Arts (China). Together we will work and bring into being our ideas and actions for this during the year of 2021!
